FAQs for workshops

 

1. Can I train others after attending your workshop?

No. Workshops are for personal learning and are designed to progress across levels. To be a trainer, there is a trainer’s course under ‘Train with Us’ and it includes training, an evaluation to guide you about your skill level and a certification by us.

2. Will I learn how to make my own dyes?

You can learn the basic chemistry and process of dye making in Herb to Color workshop but making your own dyes for application is a long process that will require your experiments, observations, research to solve various problems that come with natural dyeing. .. sources

3. What are your sources for Natural dyes?

Plant sources like turmeric, pomegranate peels are used in our yellows hartaki, indigo is used for our blue, madder for reds and variations with other herbs and minerals like alum and iron.

4. What benefits does one get by applying natural dyes?

Natural dyes if are skin friendly and healing, do not pollute air, water or soil and health of the dyer. The waste of natural dyes is organic and can be recycled or let out safely in the environment if no heavy metals or chemicals have been used.

5. How many participants will be there in an online workshop?

If you purchase a workshop from website, it is one to one only. If you purchase a group workshop, then there might be few people.

6. Can you do the workshop in our organization?

Yes. You would have to bear the cost of travel and stay if outside Ahmedabad.

7. Are workshops both online and offline? What is the difference?

Yes, we offer both. You can schedule an online workshop at your convenient time and date. For offline, you have to make an appointment with our team.

Offline workshops are longer duration than online ones, it is more personal and hands-on experience. There is no strict limit on materials used in the workshop.

Offline workshops are more expensive than online as lot of materials, equipment and preparations have to be made. Lunch and tea are also provided in the offline workshop.

Online workshops are usually for 40mins-1.5 hour. Offline workshops are for 3-4 hours.

8. Do you deliver workshops for mentally challenged people?

Yes, our sessions like tie and dye, block printing are especially suitable and we have prior experience of doing such training.

9. What is the payment mode?

You could pay on the website -by card, or by UPI to 9830851646, or bank transfer to our account.

10. Is it open for all age groups?

Yes, from 5 years and above.

11. Is English necessary to attend the workshop?

No, Hindi and Bengali also works

12. Fabric paints are best only for cotton or will they work on silk as well?

They work very well on silks and many other blended fabrics

13. So how does the online workshop happen? Is there a demo & then I do it later or do I have to go along with you?

It happens over zoom or google meet, starts with an introduction to the concept and process. It can include presentations or videos too. Sometimes we demonstrate the process in the session, other times we can share recorded videos for reference. You can choose to do it later or do it along with me. In that case, preparations must be done before hand to avoid time loss and confusion.

14.I observe that ready to paint pastes are different for fabrics and for paper/canvas? Is that right?

Yes! Fabric pastes develop and reveal the true colors only on washing and curing, whereas paints for paper and canvas show their colors on application itself and cannot be washed.

15 These paints can be used with water? Can I use a normal brush?

For paper/ canvas /wood paints, you can use brushes, for fabric painting- some pressure is needed sometimes as the penetration should be seen on the other side, so we recommend sponge brushes.

16. Can I use mul fabric for fabric paints?

Yes

17. Where can I buy fabric for dyeing?

On our website shop we sell ready for dye organic cotton of various qualities, or you can buy from any other source too. It should be ready to/for dye.

18. Can I dye my clothes after attending your workshops?

Yes! And you can repeat it any number of times you want! It is a very easy to do process, suitable to city houses and does not need much time like traditional natural dye. However it does need practice & experience.

19.What’s the eligibility for the "train the trainer" program?

One should have done all our basic courses and practised a lot before applying for this.
